Apple and Nintendo

They’re my favourite companies that I’d like to invest into: I think long term both companies has designed great electronics with great user interfaces. Prices of electronics always drop, and I think it’s probably now reached a point where prices has become a little less of a factor. The usability factor, and the cool / sexy / cultural factor are more important than ever before, in a consumer’s buying decision.

Usability is so hard to get it right, and it’s not just technically challenging, I think a company has to have the corporate culture that values user and thus usability.  Apple has that culture, not too sure about Nintendo.  Counter-example?  I’d guess Micro$oft.
Of course price is a big reason why a few of my friends bought the Wii instead of PS3, but on the other hand they would have paid $50 more if they needed to.
The hard part about investing is of course when to buy, and when to sell. And that I have no clue.
